Notes for Nels PETERSON
Nels was a caring father, husband and friend to all who knew him. His build was large boned, strong muscled, ruddy complexioned and had a thick head of brown hair, slow to grey even in his mid 70’s. On his father’s farm, he worked the chores until he married. He worked for Dan Jenkins learning the carpenter skills that he excelled in. After Dan died, he organized new feed mills around the various Wisconsin towns; this required 17 moves. During WW2, he found employment in Stillwater (probably through friends in Elmwood who also made the move). After Herb was discharged from the Army, Nels and he went into the carpentry field, including building the house on Center St. Nels and Lou did some motor traveling on their vacations, when he wasn’t doing extensive remodelling on their home. On retiring they lived in the upstairs of Jerry and Donna’s house, then moved to a trailer park north of River Falls, Wi. Nels’s pall bearers were: Kerry Peterson, Bruce Peterson, Dale Peterson, Laverne Bertelson, Wayne Bertelson and Wendell Lundgaard.
