Notes for Johanna Sophia NIELSON
Grandma Johanna Peterson would help the men milk the cows (by hand still), and while they were storing or separating the milk, feeding the pigs, she would be in her kitchen preparing breakfast for them all. When Grandpa Peterson was working as a night watchman at the sawmill in Wildwood, he had his fortune read that he was going meet a fair young maiden, who some day would be his wife. His reply was “Will she have a full set of teeth?” Johannah was a maid in the boarding house where he stayed. This may have been around 1891-92. Herb remembers her well, especially standing in front of the kitchen wood stove, cooking. Her long blonde hair was braided and wrapped around her head, as was the style those days.
