Notes for Peder Scroder PETERSON
Lyman Jensen‘s grandmother was a sister to Peter Scrodder Peterson. Herb remembers Grandpa Peterson sitting in a big chair with a lamp nearby and reading the recent issue of a Danish newspaper. His memories of Grandma was of her long blonde hair braided and wrapped around her head or in a bun at the nape of her neck. She excelled in baking breads, cakes, ablesckiver, mel bollers, pancakes, canning to name a few. When Grandpa’s mother Rosena, eldes would visit the farm from Denmark, everyone would switch from an English conversation to Danish as Grandma chose not to learn English. She (Rosena) moved to one of her daughters who lived in Minneapolis where she later died. She is buried in the old Varney Creek Cemetery near Emil and Carlena’s in rural Menomonie. The new name of that cemetery is Grandview Cemetery. It is situated high on the hill where an old Lutheran church once stood. The church is no longer there.
