Notes for Herbert Harland PETERSON
Herb was an exceptionally ambitious man, with goals that he worked hard for until he reached them. His retirement dream was to live in the cabin at Blake Lake for the summer months and live near the Allen family in Arizona for the winter months. Byron Doyle and he worked on a plan suitable for a home that was insulated and comfortable which gave him the drive he needed to begin framing it up, roofed and plastered. It is situated on Blake Lake, Polk County, Wisconsin. Then he had a fatal heart attack on Feb. 14, 1983. With the volunteer help from Duane, Martin, Bruce, Dale, Terry, Rick, we witnessed part of his dream come true. The ensuing summers and more muscle work, these guys got, in addition to completing the construction, cleared trees for a presentable yard all in his memory. Shirley, Bruce and Dale ordered a U.S. Army paver to be installed with other veterans’ pavers in the memorial for veterans built on W. Pine and S. 3rd Sts. in Stillwater along with pavers for Keith and Emmett. Dale continues to set up floral arrangements for Herb’s, Marge’s, and Shirl’s grave site. Norman C. Johnson is also buried here -Charles and Maria Johnson’s son. Norm’s father, Charles Herbert Johnson was buried in Union Cemetery, St. Paul.
