Notes for Maria STOCKING
Helen Rutherford Johnson shared some of her memories of our Grandma Maria Stocking Wilcox. Among her albums were many photos of Grandma Nelle and Aunt Franc, when they were y oung. Even though they were 10 years apart, they bore a striking resemblance to one another. There was a small black and white photo of Gr. Gr. Grandma Wilcox which revealed a very sober lady wearing a white cap with strings tied under her chin. We assumed that all dev out Baptist church ladies wore these caps showing {or requesting} respect. While living in the Janesville, Wisconsin area, Gr. Gr.Grandfather Ed Wilcox, died, leaving Maria to bear her son,Adelbert, alone. My searches for E.Wilcox’s burial site were futile. Maria Stocking Wilcox was interred in Fairview Cemetery in the Richmond family plot, west of the large monument, which is situated just west of the soldier’s statue. Sep. 22, 2005, received from Joyce an 1850 U.S. Census Bath, N.Y. copy showing a George W.Stocking, wife. Eunice, and 7 children living near Edwin & Maria. A brother?
