Notes for Jesse Bubar NEWMAN
Jesse was a smooth talker moved on the farm with grandpa and the housekeeper (her name?) became a disinterested in anything related to the farm. Dad continued to be Grandpa’s right hand man, taking responsibility where needed until grandpa became ill. The barn was burned , then after Grandpa’s death , the house had a short in the wiring and it also burned. Jessie didn’t forget to have Grandpa sign the estate over to her just before he was admitted to the hospital. She swore that she had Maria’s, Oretha’s, Warren’s and Lucy’s blessings to do so. Dad was fortunate to be able to float a loan with the federal government to buy 2 horses, cows and pieces of machinery to begin farming the following spring. He found employment driving county trucks from September until the spring. Mother was a clerk at Janda’s Department Store in Stillwater. They saw that Jane and I were able to graduate from High School. He paid off the loan by having 1/4 of Maple Island Creamery milk checks received every month applied to the loan.
