Notes for Orne Douglas SMITH Lt.Col.
Orne was a man of honor, dedicated to whatever choices he made in his career during his lifetime. His humor was enjoyed by everyone and a serious nature also refected in his personality. He was in excellent health as a result of his avid interests in active sports. As I recall, I would like to remember the many places he and Kath lived in during his many years serving in the Army from 1940 and on. First in mind is Atlanta, San Luis Obispo, Calif. and Vienna, Italy. Kath was diligent in writing to family; would have gained more history had we kept those letters! On a post card, dated 16 May 1947, was Orne’s address while stationed in Italy: (or Austria] Major O D Smith, 01541288, USArmy, 61st STA Hospital, APO 282 c/o PM, NY,NYI I recall he was in the medical field. They may have taken weekend side trips from his base.
